Kaboom x Omroep Zwart: Unlearning Motherhood
90 min.
Being or becoming a mother should come with loads of medals, don't you think? The mental and physcial load of motherhood is a challenge that would put to shame even the greatest male superhero. Through a panel talk intertwined with a curated short film programme, Kaboom and Omroep Zwart try to offer a nuanced exploration of the maternal experience and its multifaceted visualization in animation, a medium that is perhaps best able to grasp the physciality of femininity.
Panellist:
- Sarah Lughtart: Sarah teaches in the Master of Animation at St. Joost. She will speak about being child-free as a conscious decision.
- Milou Gevers: director of the film Spijtmoeder (will be broadcast on 16 May by VPRO), about women that regret becoming a mother.
- Marcia Engels: Marcia is a Colombian adoptee that has an NGO for adopted Latin-American kids in the Netherlands, called "Plan Angel".
Moderated by Juliana Erazo. Juliana is a Colombian filmmaker based in The Netherlands, graduated from the MA Animation at St. Joost. Currently she is working on her next animated documentary about unconventional motherhood titled "Unlearning Motherhood".
