Kaboom Animation Festival 
Kaboom Animation Festival is the biggest animation festival in the Netherlands and brings audiences and professionals the most daring, creative and innovative national and international animated films and expanded animation every year. In 2023, the festival takes place from 24 March till 2 April in Utrecht, Amsterdam and online. Doing an internship at Kaboom is a fun and rich learning experience. You’ll be a part of the team, deal with your own projects and responsibilities and benefit from supervision to help you to carry out your tasks and learn a lot.

 

To support the organization in the period in which we prepare the festival, we are looking for three interns. Depending on your learning goals, we offer the following three positions: 

• (Online) Marketing & Communication: during this internship you will assist us in reaching existing and new audiences. Not everyone knows how great Kaboom is (yet) and you will help us spread the word. You will work on increasing our visibility on socials, through newsletters and via our website. You will be in contact with partners for publications and will be supporting (online) visitors navigate the program; 
• Program: during this internship you’ll work on the film program, the expanded animation program and the side programming. You’ll do the program administration in our database, communicate with artists about the selection and programming of their work, work on collecting the necessary publication details and film prints and support the production of the various screenings and events; 
• Production: in this internship you will be helping us to run the festival smoothly. You will assist in creating festival events, help the hospitality department in preparing the travel and stay of our international guests, assist the industry department with the practical preparation of the Industry Days, work on schedules and planning of volunteers and catering. Basically, just to be our general hero.  

 

Team & division of tasks 

Team Kaboom is lean and mean. Next to the artistic and business directors, there are heads for the program, industry, marketing and communication, technical production, and production departments. In the period preceding the festival, these departments are expanded with part-timers and interns. During the festival, around 90 volunteers help to make everything run smoothly. 

 

Who are we looking for 

At Kaboom we love to work with animation fans, enthusiasts, nerds, weirdos, film lovers, gamers, festival goers, loners and showboats. Everyone can be Kaboom! Experience is not required, but enthusiasm and availability are. We are mostly looking for people who are willing to learn and look forward to gaining experience and getting things done. The festival language is English, so sufficient working knowledge of the language is a must.   

 

Practical information 

The internships run from halfway through December 2022 till halfway through April 2023. We are looking for people who are available for an average of three days a week but are also open to discuss possibilities if your availability is slightly different. We have an office in Amsterdam and a desk in Utrecht where you can work. Most team members work from home frequently, we are flexible. A monthly internship compensation of €150 is available (based on 3 days). You will be assigned a fixed internship supervisor. If your studies require you to do research or write a report, we are very open to discuss possible subjects.
